Food Donation Connection
Food Donation Connection (FDC) assists food service companies with donating food and helps manage their food donation programs. Since 1992, FDC has coordinated the donation of over 750 million pounds of prepared food from food service companies in 31 countries. FDC coordinates programs for Pizza Hut, KFC, McDonald’s, Whole Foods, Olive Garden, Red Lobster, LongHorn Steakhouse, The Capital Grille, Bahama Breeze, Seasons 52, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Famous Dave’s, Auntie Anne’s, Chick-fil-A, Einstein Bros Bagels, Wawa, Outback Steakhouse, Bonefish Grill, and Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse, and many others. They are open to work with other companies wanting to make a difference.
Food service companies use a six-step process when donating food:
1. Identify the food eligible to donate
2. Safely package and label food
3. Weigh or count donated product
4. Properly chill and/or freeze product
5. Document amount of product with customized app or file transfer process
6. Hold for pick up by a local charity
FDC provides paperless donation tracking through the web and mobile apps and provides monthly and annual reports for the donor’s operations and tax departments. Through the program, FDC’s goal is to help make the food donation process easy, so that the donors can help those in their community, while also maximizing their tax savings. To ensure proper food safety handling practices, FDC provides training materials for both donors and receiving agency.
FDC recognizes that food rescue operations play an important role in helping to alleviate hunger in communities. They are committed to continuing to provide guidance and support companies in donating food and educating others about the importance of getting involved in this cause.
